Join Diversity Diva Michelle T. Johnson for the Working While Black podcast covering various topics on how Blacks can succeed in the White workplace. There will be a Q&A session afterwards. This is a free event. Please register in order to receive the call in number and access code.  

 

Subjects to be covered during the podcast:

  • Tips on how African Americans can fit their styles, mindsets, and history into the workplace.
  • How best to deal with situations, problems, and issues unique to being black in a white working world.
  • Changes in social networking, the Obama effect, the economic downturn, and recent court decisions.

BOOK DESCRIPTION
Working While Black: The Black Person's Guide to Success in the White Workplace offers practical suggestions for black Americans to develop mental awareness, a psychological game plan, and an increased level of business savvy in order to negotiate the minefield of the white work world. Included are commonsense scenarios and real-life solutions that will help every black American evaluate his or her options—from getting hired to getting fired, from adjusting one's attitude to suing an employer. Tips are offered on how African Americans can fit their styles, mindsets, and history into the workplace, and insight is provided into how best to deal with situations, problems, and issues unique to being black in a white working world. This new edition has been updated to account for changes in social networking, the Obama effect, the economic downturn, and recent court decisions.

 

 

About Michelle T. Johnson:

Currently, Ms. Johnson is a writer, public speaker and diversity consultant/trainer who has a column in the business section of the Kansas City (Mo.) Star called "Diversity Diva" and has been appointed by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to be a member of its Kansas Advisory Committee.

Ms. Johnson is a former employment attorney for two Kansas City, Missouri law firms, including one of the largest in the city (Husch Blackwell Sanders LLC), representing companies and organizations in employment litigation, including Hallmark Cards, the Kansas City, MissouriSchool District, Deffenbaugh Industries, DST, Kansas City Power and Light and Interstate Brands Corporation (IBC).

A certified mediator who has practiced law in the states of Missouri and Kansas, Ms. Johnson has performed mediations for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Kansas City, Missouri Human Relations Department and private mediations.

Ms. Johnson is also a former journalist who worked as a newspaper reporter at the Philadelphia Daily News, the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Austin American-Statesman.
